GALERİST
Oculus by Yusuf Sevinçli
Sevinçli’s fifth artist book, published by Galerist Publications and bearing the same name as the exhibition.
The exhibition, consisting mostly of black-and-white analog photographs taken in France and Turkey, takes its name from an ancient Roman architectural term meaning a small circular or oval window or round opening in the center of domes. Oculus, a dark interior space, an intense light It allows the bundle to enter, thus creating a threshold between the worlds of shadow and light. In Sevinçli's images, we find ourselves in a world of shadows where light, meaning, and beauty pass by in an inaccessible, momentary way, settling in memory. The images in the artist's works are rich in ambiguity and metaphor; a flower silhouette takes on an epic and architectural form, while an ordinary record of the act of making art, a white circle drawn on a dark background, acquires a mysterious meaning. A woman tugs at her own skin, another's eyes gleam. A man in motion, his arms outstretched, his head hidden from us; perhaps he is dancing or falling. In another, the steps climb towards light and imagination. Sevinçli's photographs possess an aesthetic and poetic intelligence. These are images of things and places that truly exist. However, the process of analog photography; The artist makes reality dreamlike through elegant coincidences such as the framing of the photograph, the manipulation of the negative, and the quality of the print. rgb(255, 255, 255); color: rgb(255, 255, 255); font-size: 12px; font-weight: 400">Yusuf Sevinçli
